At the congregational level, the governing body is called the session, from the Latin word “sessio”, meaning "a sitting". The session is made up of the pastors of the church and all elders elected and installed to active service. The session takes care of the guidance and direction of the ministry of the local church, including almost all responsibilities of spiritual and fiduciary leadership. The session also oversees the work of the deacons, a second body of leaders also tracing its origins to the Book of Acts.
The deacons are a congregational-level group whose duty is "to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith."
Directs the finances of the church under the oversight of the Session.
Pastor Mike Wey became the new pastor of Evergreen Church on a Hill following
the congregational meeting to accept him as pastor in January of 2023. New to
Washington, he is excited to experience all that Washington and the surrounding
areas have to offer.
He grew up in Southern California, attending Saint Peter’s by the Sea Presbyterian
Church. He was active in youth group and later became part of the Jr. High
ministry team. Ministry has always been in his blood.
He attended the University of California at Santa Barbara and earned a bachelor
of Arts degree. He met his future wife Tracy while in attendance at UCSB.
Pastor Mike and Tracy were married August 1994. They made their residence in
Austin Texas, where Mike earned his Masters of Divinity degree at Austin
Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, they moved to Wisconsin
for Mike’s first call. Mike has also pastored churches in Illinois, Arkansas, and
currently, in Washington. Tracy is an elementary school teacher. She has taught
4K through second grade and has loved every moment of it.
It has always been important to Pastor Mike to be active in community affairs
such as: food pantry ministries, GRO ministries, Rotary, Lion’s Club, interchurch
councils, Relay for Life, Samaritan’s purse, and anywhere else he was needed.
Being involved in these activities helps to share God’s compassion and love to
others. He enjoys playing golf, hiking, and traveling with his wife.
One of his favorite bands, Casting Crowns, sums it up with these words, “I’m just a
nobody, trying to tell everybody, all about Somebody, who saved my soul.”
